PE at Eden Park

PE & Sports Premium

What is the Sports Premium?

The Government is providing additional funding to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools.

The money is provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport. It is allocated to primary schools to be spent at the discretion of the Headteacher. It can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools

Eden Park works with North Devon Primary Sports to deliver high quality sports with an emphasis around these core principles:

  • Promote the importance of nutrition and self-care.

  • Promote physical and mental health wellbeing.

  • Provide a safe learning environment.

All our children do a daily Take 10 physical activity with  focus on aerobic, where children use large muscles and continue for a period of time. They also exercise to strengthen their muscles and bones.

In addition to a daily Take 10, each class has two PE sessions across the week with the values of TEAMWORK, RESPECT, COURAGE, RESILIENCE, PERSEVERANCE and LEADERSHIP woven through the curriculum.

As well as taking part in a variety of sports in their in – class PE sessions the children at Eden Park Academy have the chance to participate in a range of lunchtime and after school sports clubs including football, netball, cricket, rounders, handball and multi-skills.

We are part of the Barnstaple Learning Community PE group and as part of this children across the school get to take part in a range of sporting festivals and tournament.
